Periodontal Disease in Broomall, PA

Dr. Kim Tran

What is periodontal disease?

Periodontal disease is basically the loss of bone around your tooth, and when you have loss of bone around your tooth, you can get a lot of bleeding and a lot of loose teeth. This is very important to address.

What causes periodontal disease?

There are a lot of causes, but mainly it's the bacteria around your tooth, along with additional factors like sugars and things like that, that can cause you to lose the bone around your teeth.

What are the symptoms of periodontal disease?

Tooth mobility is one of the symptoms of periodontal disease. A lot of bleeding is another symptom. Bad smell and bad taste are also common symptoms.

Are there links between periodontal disease and other health conditions?

Right now, there are a lot of links to other diseases such as diabetes, cardiac heart conditions, and especially Alzheimer's and memory loss.

Can periodontal disease be cured?

Periodontal disease can be helped and managed, but it may not be fully cured all the way. Periodontal disease involves bone loss, and once you lose the bone, we can't grow that bone back, but we are able to control it, hopefully, and by doing that, that will help with the periodontal disease.

What treatment options are available for periodontal disease?

There are many treatment options available, but the main one we usually do is root planing and scaling, which is what people call a deep cleaning. We also have a thing called Perio Tray. Basically, it's a tray that we put antibiotics in, and you wear the tray, and that will help with the periodontal disease.

Is periodontal treatment painful?

It's not painful. We would numb you up for the periodontal treatment, so it shouldn't be painful at all.
